Saturday Gift Post--Apple Stuff.

I decided to organize a fall table around Beverly's recommendation for Theresa Weir's memoir, The Orchard, which just came out this month.

(Note that these are the candles to the right...)

"Theresa Weir married into an Iowa family farm, gaining not just a husband, but a domineering mother-in-law, who controls not just her husband, but her son and the apple farm itself. When the decision is made to start using pesticides aggressively, the consequences are disastrous. In between are moments about Weir’s own sad upbringing. Now the author lives in Minnesota, with chemicals in her past. It may be a quick read, but it packs a lot of emotion."

For some reason, I thought the author now lived in Wisconsin, but it turned out to not be so.  I suspect someone along the way mixed up the states, which as you know, happens with some frequency.

Fortunately, we found apple plates, salt and pepper shakers, and candles.  The candles were wrapped in plastic wrap and tied in raffia.  I've complained about how this makes the product look bad, so we're doing this round au natural.

Other apple books out this fall:
The Apple Lover's Cookbook, by Amy Traverso
Apple Pie, by Ken Haedrich
Apple: A Global History, by Erika Janik
