I simply didn't have the cash in the budget to splurge on a book this time, and I felt guilty about it, but also resentful (I saw three titles I want). But it's funny - as my husband I sat and browsed and talked about the books and magazines we would like to have bought, I reassured myself that we were helping with the ambience.
